Welcome to the LDS Church’s baptism program! We are excited to have you join our community of believers. Baptism is an important ordinance that symbolizes our commitment to follow Jesus Christ. It is also a time to make covenants with God and to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
We hope this program will help you prepare for your baptism. It includes information about the steps involved in baptism, as well as some helpful resources. We encourage you to read through the program carefully and to discuss it with your family and friends. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your local LDS Church leader.
Getting Started
The first step in preparing for baptism is to meet with your local LDS Church leader. They will help you understand the requirements for baptism and will answer any questions you may have. Once you have met with your leader, you will be given a baptismal interview. This interview is an opportunity for you to share your testimony and to express your desire to be baptized.
After you have passed your baptismal interview, you will be ready to be baptized. The baptism will be performed by a priesthood holder in the LDS Church. The baptism will take place in a baptismal font, which is a large pool of water. As you are baptized, you will be immersed in the water and then raised up out of the water. This symbolizes your death to your old life and your resurrection to a new life in Christ.
Making Covenants
During your baptism, you will make several covenants with God. These covenants include:
- To follow Jesus Christ.
- To repent of your sins.
- To be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
- To receive the Holy Ghost.
- To serve God and your fellowmen.
These covenants are a sacred commitment to live a righteous life and to follow Jesus Christ. By keeping these covenants, you will be eligible to receive the blessings of eternal life.
Receiving the Holy Ghost
After you are baptized, you will be eligible to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead and is a source of comfort, guidance, and power. The Holy Ghost will help you to understand the scriptures, to make righteous decisions, and to live a more Christlike life. You will receive the Holy Ghost through the laying on of hands by a priesthood holder in the LDS Church.
We are grateful that you are considering baptism into the LDS Church. We believe that baptism is an important step on the path to eternal life. We invite you to learn more about the LDS Church and to experience the joy of following Jesus Christ.
